I just really need some type of external power button to turn the laptop on with without opening laptop, preferably one I could mount on the desk by the key board and mouse. So I have a cupboard right next to the desk that I would like to put this laptop in (on a shelf that conveniently has no room for much else).

Currently I have a Dell P-series 27" monitor mounted to the wall for a display, however there is no room for the Latitude on the desk in this cube van.

I thought about wake on LAN but it will only be connecting wireless for network connections.Īs for my setup we have a tricked out cube-van (about $180,00 worth) that we use for GIS and pipeline surveying that we need to make room for a Latitude 5404. Wake On LAN maybe.? I do not have a very clear visual in my head of what your setup is from your post above. Or if you can think of some other solution that would be fantastic also! I know I could do some sort of a hibernation and wake it with a keystroke but, I would REALLY like some sort of external power button. I would really like an external power button for this laptop so it doesn't have to be dug out a cupboard every time they would like to use it. Does that seem possible? For video and USB I will have to use a USB docking station and just have them plug power into it also. It has a serial port on the back of it and I wondering if I could get some sort of external power button for the laptop that would interface with the serial port. When the laptop was ordered it wasn't ordered with the docking port on the bottom (its the ultra-rugged version) and I need a docking solution that I can turn the laptop on with. Anyway I need some sort of a docking station for this laptop, it's going in a GIS truck and wont be moved very often. I have a Latitude 5404 that was purchased and cannot be returned because of the way it was purchased through a grant (just getting that out of the way).
